St. Benedicts Street Christmas Fair 2005

The fair went very well. We were very lucky with the weather as it remained sunny and rain free all day. Overall it was a huge success. The climbing wall was very popular with children and the choirs in St Laurence's church were beautiful. Nothing really beats an old church for acoustics.

The street was busy from 11 am onwards with the main crowds being between 12 and 3pm.

The Lord Mayor attended and presented the prizes for the best dressed windows. These windows were done by Norwich Art School students. The winning windows were

First Boats n Bits £150
Second Circular Sound £100
Third Earsham Hall Pine £75
Forth Pick-a-Lilly £50
Fifth A Bonanza £25

Some of the restaurants and pubs in the street did a tremendous trade in roast meat rolls and The Arts Centre and Comfortably Numb gave away free mulled wine and mince pies.

We had an arts trail in conjunction with Salisbury's Arts Center which involved groups of children with their parents following a trail of clues through the street and picking up goodie bags at participating shops when the children answered a question correctly or drew appropriate pictures related to the shops in question.

The whole day was rounded off by a set by Lene Lovich at Comfortably Numb.

We will definitely be repeating this next year, with perhaps a summer fair too.
